Lent is the 40 days of preparation for Easter, starting on Ash Wednesday and ending in Holy Week. (NB Sundays DO NOT count as Lent, as for Christians, they are ALWAYS a celebration of the Resurrection.)
Catholics are asked to do three things in Lent:
These three activities help us to:
- re-focus our attention and gratitude on God,
- break bad habits and take ourselves away from negative and harmful things
- look again at those in need and see our brothers and sisters who need help – and to reach out to them
This year at Becket’s, our Lenten theme is PLENTY.
Most of us have what we need and more to sustain us. This Lent we are focussing on being grateful for all we have and making sure that we do not let our abundance swamp or desensitise us.
So we will PRAY each morning in form during Lent, thanking God for all we have and asking that we make the most of the PLENTIFUL gifts, talents and resources we have been LENT by God to help others as well as build a life for ourselves
We will think about those areas of PLENTY where we have too much of a good thing and challenge our school community to ABSTAIN or FAST from the glut of social media which is so harmful if not kept in very tight check.
We will give of our PLENTY to support – via Catholic Care – those who need most support.
A few explorations of the theme of PLENTY for us to focus on:
